Jeep just dropped the 2025 Wrangler 4xe Backcountry – think of it as a Sahara 4xe on steroids with beefier off-road gear and tech upgrades. They’re only making 5,800 for North America, and you can order one now starting at $64,290 (plus destination).
Assisting the electric motors is their 2.0L I4 turbo PHEV engine and 8-speed automatic with a 3.73 rear axle ratio. Combined, it’s rated for an impressive 42mpg.
What makes it special? For starters, they’ve added steel bumpers front and rear, rock rails to protect your rocker panels, and a Mopar single-loop grille guard.
It rolls on 32-inch (275/55R20) General Grabber A/T tires mounted on 20-inch wheels.
Those wheels are about the only thing that’s a nod to it being an electric vehicle, likely saving a bit of weight over taller, meatier tires. General Grabbers are mid-pack in terms of weight (see how they stack up in our A/T tire comparison here).
The tech package is pretty sweet, with a nine-speaker Alpine system with integrated subwoofers.
The GPS navigation comes with built-in Adventure Guides, and the Jeep Power Box lets you tap into the hybrid battery to power your camp gadgets through four 120-volt outlets.
The hood’s center is covered in a cool topo decal, a nod to the old Jeep Rubicon Recon that had a blacked-out hood. The Wilderness Edition of the Subaru Outbacks use this to great effect, too, helping reduce glare off the hood from the sun, roof lights, etc.
One feature I’m particularly stoked about is the front TrailCam – an absolute game-changer when you’re crawling over technical terrain and can’t see over the hood. They’ve also thrown in a Trailer Tow package for hauling your toys, and all-weather floor mats inside.
The Uconnect 5 system integrates trail guides for more than 62 Badge of Honor trails. If you’re willing to pay for a subscription, you can unlock guides for over 3,000 additional trails. It also comes with cool adventure apps like Geocaching and The Dyrt.
Color options include Anvil, Black, Bright White, Firecracker Red, Granite Crystal, Hydro Blue, and the new ’41 shade. You can also opt for the body-color Sky One-Touch power top if you want.
Bottom line: if you dig the refinement and hybrid efficiency of the Sahara 4xe but need something more capable for serious overland adventures, the Backcountry edition hits that sweet spot. Just be ready to shell out $66,185 after destination fees…plus $595 more if you want this Hydro Blue Pearl Coat paint.
