Airstream Interstate 19X Outland Edition camper van is, um, riveting

Billed as their most rugged off-road camper van ever, the limited edition Airstream Interstate 19X is now available and has an (optional) metallic rivet vinyl wrap to match their trademark trailers.

Peel that off and it’s actually a very cool, interesting take on camper van layouts. Directly inside the side door is an enclosed wet bath with toilet and shower, plus there’s a kitchen, party speakers, and a unique three-position bed.

The bed tri-folds into a compact space that can be pushed forward over the living area, or rearward over the cargo area. Once unfolded for sleeping, it can slide partway out the back for open air stargazing, or pushed forward to close the rear doors.

It’s on rails strong enough to support someone on top and hang a chair or hammock underneath. You can remove it completely, too, for more interior space.

The living area has seating for two or three…

…plus a sink, microwave, and an induction cooktop that can be used inside or out. A small electric fridge fits in a cubby and sits on a slide that lets you access it from the inside or outside, and easily remove it.

Other cool features include interior and exterior accent lighting (optional), exterior table mount, front off-road lighting (five 6″ light bars, two on hood, three on grill), and a 270º OVS awning.

That last one is neat because it adds more shade coverage, something that’s hard to do with a standard rectangular awning when it’s mounted high up on a tall van.

A Bluetooth-enabled control panel, 200Wh LiFePO4 batteries, 80a/2000W inverter/controller, and 200W solar panels round out the electronics package.

Video walk-thru… sort of

The video walk-thru above is from the original version’s release at the beginning of the year, but worth a watch to see the general layout of the front cabin, bathroom, and electronic creature comforts. The bed and lighting are very different on the Outland LE model featured in this post.

Price upon request, likely around $240,000. Only 30 units are being built. It’ll tow 5,000lbs, too, so throw in a matching trailer while you’re at it, no?
