Introduced last summer, the 2025 Land Rover Defender OCTA is an adventure-ready SUV that combines luxury, power, and off-road capability like few others.
It’s propelled by a monstrous twin-turbo 4.4L V8 pushing 626HP, and controls it on- and off-road with a sophisticated linked independent air suspension. This gives it the right manners no matter the terrain, and also gives them a platform that needs little modification to run Dakar and FIA World Rally-Raid Championships.
Meaning, the $157,000 vehicle you can buy on the lot has the same body architecture, transmission, and driveline layout as the ones they’ll be racing in the “Stock” category in 2026.
That body is a lightweight aluminum monocoque frame, which they say is 3x stronger than the popular (amongst overlanders, anyway) body-on-frame construction. They also say it’s torsionally rigid, too, letting the moving parts do what they do without worrying about flex and twist from the things they’re mounted to.
Furthering its overland credentials, the Defender OCTA boasts:

- 33″ tires (largest ever spec’d for this model)
- More ground clearance and wheel articulation
- 1.1″ higher stance, 2.7″ wider track
- Hydraulic interlinked dampers & height-adjustable air springs
- Terrain-specific, rally-inspired ABS braking
- Faster steering ratio
- Upgraded front alloy skid plate
- Front & rear recovery points
- Virtual under-vehicle front camera view
And thanks to its “mild hybrid” 48V electric motor assistance, it’ll propel you to 60mph in as little as 3.8 seconds. It even has “vibro-acoustic” seats that work with the sound system to enhance bass feel and, just in case getting out into nature isn’t enough, they also provide six wellness programs.
While the competition vehicle will take advantage of the “stock” category rules to tune it for racing and won’t be directly available to the public, this one seems more than capable of traveling off-grid at normal speeds and keeps all the creature comforts.
