EarthCruiser has announced a significant strategic shift from building complete expedition vehicles to focusing on platform development and manufacturing partnerships, marking a new chapter for the renowned overland vehicle company.
If you recall, EarthCruiser officially closed its original factory operations last year, but now they’re rebooting, calling this “the beginning of a bold new chapter.”
Rather than manufacture complete expedition-ready vehicles as they did before, they’re focused on engineered vehicle platforms that they’ll sell to independent builders and van conversion specialists across North America.
EarthCruiser Platform Program
The company has introduced its Platform Program, offering two of its most popular vehicle designs as “fully engineered, ready-to-install shells” designed for independent van upfitters, custom builders, and conversion specialists to finish the interiors and accessories based on customer needs.
This approach allows customers to work with local builders while still accessing EarthCruiser’s proven engineering and design expertise.
They say this helps remake the RV industry to deliver better products while supporting regional economies and craftsmanship.
They’re staying in their Bend, Oregon headquarters, where they are “actively developing next-gen platforms and pushing the boundaries of off-grid exploration.”
For now, that includes their MOD slide-in truck bed camper shells and Terranova complete flatbed habitats. And, they’ll still offer very limited production (four per year) of their flagship EXP and FX models.
They’re also working on the EarthCruiser EVADO for the Sprinter chassis, along with towable options specifically designed for overland/adventure travel.
Community Building Initiatives
Looking ahead, EarthCruiser plans to launch Tag-Along Training Tours – guided adventures designed to help owners develop hands-on skills and connect with the broader overland community.
The company is positioning this transition as building a movement rather than just manufacturing vehicles, emphasizing craftsmanship, innovation, and community engagement in the overland travel space.
