There’s a lot of open space (some might call it wasted space) over the cab in a Sprinter van, and Radius Outfitters has the solution. This DIY kit puts a lightweight mesh shelf overhead, giving you a ton of storage for things like blankets, bags, jackets, and other light but bulky items.
The Gear Loft kit is designed for the high-roof Sprinter models (2007-2019) and uses an aluminum tube frame to shape it and keep the mesh-and-fabric floor taut. Small brackets attach it to the pillars, and it sits high enough to maintain full use of your sun visors.
The floor is see-thru mesh, so you can find something at a glance from below if you’re trying to fish it out while seated up front. Small pockets on the underside keep maps and stuff at hand, too, and are accessible from both driver and passenger seats.
The Gear Loft adds 8.5 square feet of shelf space with a 55″ x 30″ footprint. Max weight of gear stowed is 5lbs per side (10lbs total), and, seriously, only soft items that aren’t going to hurt if they do fall out. Price is $675.
