Coming in at just 80lbs for a full-sized hardshell rooftop tent, the new Inspired Overland carbon fiber lightweight RTT is also ultra slim.
The alloy frame with carbon fiber top panel is just 4.75″ tall when closed, impressive for a hardshell design that also has exterior T-slots for accessory and cross-bar mounting. Gas struts assist in lifting the top and hold it open.
The tent walls are taped & heat-sealed waterproof 2000D polyester oxford fabric with UV protection. They have zippered screen doors for ventilation, and the rear door is protected by a 3-sided rainfly with skylight.
The roof and walls have storage pockets and shoe cubbies, plus two heating/cooling ducts let you blow your portable heater or A/C unit into the tent.
The included air mattress is an air/foam hybrid that self-inflates to 3″ thick. Deflate it and there’s room to leave your bedding on it when you close the tent. They say you can add a foam mattress if you prefer, but it may not leave enough room for bedding when closed.
Dimensions are 86” x 50“ x 4.75”. Inside sleeping area is 85” x 49” and mattress is 84″ x 48″. MSRP is $2,399, including ladder (which weighs 14lbs). Shipping is $250 within the USA, available April 2024. They’ll offer steel and carbon fiber T-slot upgrades, and interior insulation lining, later this year.

Inspired Overland got their start making lightweight and affordable rooftop tents, and their standard Lightweight RTT is only 76lbs and just $999. It has a smaller footprint that may not fit taller adults, though, so…
Their XL Lightweight RTT is only 86lbs and just $1,199. That’s $1,200 less expensive than the carbon RTT, and it has a larger footprint and sleeping area. It’s dimensions are 90″ x 52″ x 4″ closed, sleeping area is 86″ x 50″.
Both standard versions use a water-proof PVC top cover over cross bars (like a truck bed tonneau cover) that zips around the base to keep it closed. Gas struts push the top up and hold it open when it’s time to camp. This unique softshell approach keeps it extremely easy to open and close, and extremely thin – they’re just 4″ thick!
Both come with a telescoping 8.5′ ladder and 1.5″ memory foam mattress with anti-condensation pad.
If you’re looking for a lightweight rooftop tent that’s affordable, go with these. If you need a hardshell that’s more durable and can mount accessories, their carbon fiber RTT is unique in its class.
