The new Insta360 Ace Pro 2 takes what is already an amazing action camera and makes it better with dual imaging chips, higher frame rates, better sound, and overall upgraded electronics.
I used the original Ace Pro for all of my Overland Expo East 2024 coverage, and this one looks even better. Here’s what you need to know…
What’s new?
Carry over features include the flip touch screen, 1/1.3″ (0.77″) sensor size, Leica Super-Summarit lens and 4K120 slow motion. For comparison, the GoPro HERO 13 Black supposedly has a 1/1.9″ (0.53″) sensor, but the DJI Action 5 Pro also has a 1/1.3″ sensor.
Key upgrades for the Ace Pro 2 are:
- Dual AI chip powering a “next-gen” 8K sensor that’s now capable of 30fps (up from 24fps)
- Upgraded 4K60 HDR video (better daytime video)
- Upgraded Pure Video (better low-light performance)
- 2.5″ flip touchscreen (up from 2.4″, now also brighter & sharper)
- 50MP photos (up from 48MP)
- Integrated Wind Guard for better audio
- Removable Lens Guard for easier replacements
- Waterproof to 12m (up from 10m, but still 60m with Dive Case)
- 1800mAh battery (up from 1650mAh)
- 13mm focal length (down from 16mm, yields wider 157ยบ field of view)
- 180Mbps bitrate (up from 170Mbps)
The original Ace Pro had an AI chip, but the Ace Pro 2 adds a second, dedicated Pro Imaging Chip specifically to handle image processing and noise reduction. The other one assists with image processing but also improves general camera performance for smoother, faster operation and response times.
It also keeps Gesture & Voice Control, Pause/Resume recording (to keep multiple shots in a single file for easier editing), and Timecode (for syncing multiple cameras).
It also keeps Bluetooth compatibility with many popular earbuds and helmet mics, so you can capture better voiceovers while recording.

The Standard Bundle retails for $399.99 USD and includes a Wind Guard, battery, Standard Mount, Mic Cap & USB-C Cable.
The Dual Battery Bundle includes the same accessories and two batteries for US$419.99. Other bundles with mounts, handles, etc. are available. I’d recommend grabbing a couple extra Magnetic Mounts to keep attached to other accessories for quicker swaps.
