ModVans has been building camper vans off the Ford Transit platform for a couple years, but their plans are more ambitious than that.
For now, they’re in a new 30,000 square foot factory to continue conversions, but are crowdfunding investment capital to build a 100,000 sq.ft. factory and start building their own proprietary electric camper vans.
The ModVans E-CV1 concept puts a camper van shell on a “skateboard” style platform that contains the batteries, motor, wheels, steering, etc. It’s a design used by several major auto brands, allowing them to use a single platform for multiple models.
From the looks of it, ModVan will offer a variety of options, using the modular platform to build out different designs based on customer needs. But, they’ll focus on making the top shell and purchase the electric deck from a supplier. Meaning, they’re going to remain a conversion company, not try to become an electric car company and reinvent the wheel. Which is good, because that hasn’t worked out so well for brands like Fisker, Canoo, and others.
In the meantime, they offer three models, with various options for pop-top tents and other accessories.
