Garmin just unveiled two new versions of their Tread 2 navigator – the Overland Edition and SxS Edition – packing some serious upgrades and bigger 8-inch screens.

The high-res touchscreen displays are bright enough to read in direct sunlight, are glove-friendly, and have an IP67 rating to survive dust storms and creek crossings. Inside, faster processors eliminate lag while navigating technical terrain.

They come pre-loaded with a comprehensive mapping package, using OpenStreetMap, USFS Motor Vehicle Use Maps, and Adventure Roads data. That gets you turn-by-turn navigation for unpaved roads and trails, letting you choose to have it route you off the beaten path for more adventurous trips.

The preloaded off-road riding areas across North America include trail difficulty ratings, too, plus government, public, and private land boundaries (with some ownership info, too), and 46,000+ camping locations in the U.S.

Satellite imagery adds visual terrain data, and it downloads directly via Wi-Fi. Do that before you leave (or tether to your phone before you leave civilization) and you can have all of the info and graphics no matter how far off grid you get.
