Flash Java 1.0L
For smaller setups or solo outings, the new Flash Java 1.0L Fast Boil System combines a French press with their signature quick-heat system to save both space and fuel. Need hot water for cooking a meal pack? Or making coffee in the AM? It’ll do both, boiling water in just 100 seconds.
It comes with an insulated pot cover that integrates a heat indicator, so you can tell when it’s hot enough inside. The whole thing packs down to 4.25″ x 7.5″, with the fuel canister and stabilizer stand fitting inside the pot. MSRP $159.99.
TrailCook 1.2L
If the focus is on cooking for one and you need more control over heat output than the all-or-nothing Flash series, the new TrailCook 1.2L is for you. It uses a precision control dial to control fuel output and flame size, so you can go from simmer to boil.
It comes with a 1.2L ceramic-coated non-stick FluxRing pot, so you get all the same efficiency of their flame-containing design, just with more heat control. It packs down to just 5″ x 3.8″ (550g) and stows the fuel canister inside, too. If you’re bringing this along on a bike or hike, this is the one you want. MSRP is $179.99.
TrailCook 2.0
For larger groups where you mainly need to cook a single dish or heat enough water for up to four people to get their caffeine fix, the TrailCook 2.0 is it. Same features as the smaller 1.2L, including a lid with built-in strainer, but with a bigger pot.
The nice thing about their systems is the pots are self-centering, and with the included fuel can base stabilizer, they’re less likely to topple. Click-to-ignite dials mean you don’t need to bring matches or a lighter, either. Packed size is 6.5″ x 4″ (630g, $199.99), just barely more than the 1.2L. When a few extra grams don’t matter, the extra capacity is probably worth it.
Genesis Basecamp
For a proper camp kitchen that still packs down ridiculously small, the Jetboil Genesis Basecamp gives you a dual burner stove, 5L cook pot, 10″ fry pan (both ceramic non-stick), wind screen, and the ability to cook down to 20ºF
Even though it cooks big (it puts out 10,000BTU), the complete system packs down to 10.3″ x 7.2″ (excluding fuel bottle) and comes with a carrying case to keep it all together. . Weight is 4100g (9lb 1.6oz). You can expand it with a second single- or dual-burner setup to create a 3- or 4-burner range running off the same fuel canister, too. MSRP is 449.99.
Weights listed do not include fuel canisters. Fuel canisters are sold separately for all stoves, and the Flash & TrailCook are compatible with most common camp stove fuel canisters. The Genesis series uses propane and comes with a standard 1/4″ female MPT thread for 16.4o propane bottles.
