I’ve got a fully Line-X coated van, which is awesome, but have been wondering if there are any smooth options that look like paint rather than bed liner. Turns out, yes – the new Body Liner is like bed liner, but smooth.
The truck featured here shows off a blend of smooth and textured, with the black being a typical truck bed liner finish. The green, however, was an early version of their smooth protective paint that was applied four years ago.
They’ve since updated the material to be tougher and smoother, but the truck is a great example of what it can look like on a vehicle.
The latest generation of Body Liner coating uses a similar polyurethane material as the rougher bed liner, but it remains very flexible and bonds to the stock finish so that moisture can’t get between the paint and coating.
A typical bed liner might be around 3mm thick (actual thickness depends on customer’s needs, they can get a lot thicker), but the Body Liner ranges from ~15mils (~0.4mm) for a smooth finish up to ~30mils (~0.8mm) for a textured finish.
Body Liner can be applied entirely smooth (like the blue finish below), mostly smooth, or even given an “orange peel” finish like in the gray panel above. And you can mix and match texture and smooth finishes on the same vehicle with perfect color matching.
The ultra-smooth option has a high gloss finish, nearly identical to factory paint, just tougher. Or go matte for a more stealth appearance.
The material can be color matched to almost anything, too, and matched between their truck bed liner product, so you can mix textures across the vehicle, add sparkle flecks, etc, like so:
The material is chip-resistant and much tougher against scratches. It’s also adjustable – they can make it as hard as a rock, or as rubbery as a tire, depending on your needs.
They say it’s even flexible enough to use on springs and other high-movement parts. It’s also petrochemical-resistant, so you can use it in areas where vehicle fluids typical spill, leak, etc.
For actual bed liners, sister brand Scorpion Coatings can also add rubber flecks for more grip, or sparkles and color flecks for more style. Or both, as shown in the black sample.
