The two-wheeled crew at BDR has completed the coast to Canada trip on the east coast with the new SEBDR, connecting the Gulf to Virginia.
Designed for motos, the Backcountry Discovery Routes have become popular off-pavement trails for overlanders, too. The new Southeast route runs from Florida’s panhandle through Georgia, Tennessee, and North Carolina, finishing just across the border in Virginia.
Here’s the route, stage by stage:
- Navarre Beach, FL to Evergreen, AL – 128 miles
- Evergreen to Selma, AL – 95.3 miles
- Selma to Sylacauga, AL – 170 miles
- Sylacauga, AL to Cave Spring, GA – 126 miles
- Cave Spring to Ellijay, GA – 141 miles
- Ellijay, GA to Tellico Plains, TN – 128 miles
- Tellico Plains, TN, to Maggie Valley, NC – 154 miles
- Maggie Valley to Hot Springs, NC – 77.6 miles
- Hot Springs to Newland, NC – 114 miles
- Newland, NC, to Damascus, VA – 152 miles
From there, it connects to the Mid-Atlantic BDR and BDRX-PA, which then connect to the NEBDR, letting you run from the Gulf of Mexico to the Canadian border!
The new SEBDR gives the east coast a bigger share of the action, though the midwest and west coast still pull hard with all that open land.
Still, putting this all together, along with the recently announced Chatahoochee BDR-X in Georgia, plus the SCAR, FAT, and a few others bits, is an impressive feat…kudos to the BDR team for making it happen!
