Building on 20 years of experience building camper vans, then the shell-on-truck HILT, Storyteller presents the even bigger GXV EPIC overlanding vehicle. Built on a modified extended-cab Kenworth 4×4 chassis, the EPIC is powered by a 6.7-liter Cummins Turbo Diesel with a 6-speed automatic HD transmission.
For serious off-road prowess, the GXV EPIC rocks a high- and low-range transfer case with a 50:1 crawl ratio and front and rear locking differentials. Sitting on 44-inch Goodyears wrapped around Alcoa rims and with King shocks handling suspension duties, there’s almost nowhere you can’t go.
And just in case your adventures get a little too spicy, you’re well equipped to handle it with an 18,000-pound winch and onboard air compressor so you can air down in mud, sand, or snow.
Power & water for days
An expedition vehicle needs to be able to go far and sustain itself off-grid for extended periods of time. No worries there, its 200-gallon diesel tank gives you a massive 1,800-mile range.
You’ve got 120 gallons of fresh water, a 40-gallon gray-water tank, and a 4.75-gallon toilet capacity. The Mastervolt Electrical System with marine-grade wiring offers 18,000W hours of power with a 4,500-watt inverter. Add the 1,980-watt solar array on the roof, and you’re ready for everything short of the apocalypse.
Interior features
Take the creature comforts of home with you in the GXV. Hand-crafted cabinetry, a queen-sized bed, a washer/dryer, and, according to Storyteller, the largest bathroom of any home on wheels.
The bathroom sports teak cabinets, a flushable cassette toilet, a skylight, and it’s heated so you can dry wet stuff. The EPIC is built for ALL seasons, with insulated 60mm-thick walls, a full heating and cooling system, and dual-pane glass windows throughout.
With all this adventure, you have to keep yourselves fueled as well. The kitchen in the EPIC could make a pro chef envious.
Featuring a stainless steel sink, Corian countertops, water purification system, marine-grade refrigerator/freezer, a dual-burner induction cooktop, and a combo convection/microwave oven, the EPIC is better than my first apartment. Maybe my second, too.
Food is better when you share it, so you’re ready to entertain with seating up to four adults. If that party runs into the wee hours of the night, the dining area converts to a full-sized bed for your guests.

Regardless of where you choose to roam, you’re safe and secure. The EPIC delivers next-level security throughout with every door featuring a 3-point locking system, including your diesel and freshwater tanks. At the touch of a button, you can engage 360° floodlights for full visibility at night. The cabin passthrough allows you to move easily from cab to living quarters without leaving the vehicle – perfect for stealth camping or during nasty weather.
The dimensions of this Storyteller are impressive: it’s 30 feet long, 12 feet high, and 96 inches wide. And the big question is the cost. What will a fully turn-key expedition vehicle that can take you to the ends of the Earth set you back? $696,377. But, the GVX EPIC qualifies for RV financing so you can spread that out over 20 years.
