Tune Outdoor Slims Down with M1L Ultralight Camper Topper

Tune Outdoor differentiated themselves with a unique truck topper design that bumps out to the sides, adding a lot of extra space inside. Now, they’ve launched a more traditional design, the M1L that sticks to straight walls to save weight and improve aerodynamics.

Weighing as little as 322 pounds, the M1L is 20% lighter than the original M1 (check that one out in our coverage from Moore Expo). This makes it one of the lightest truck camper shells on the market, and it still has a huge sleeping area.

It uses the same lightweight aluminum extrusion construction with composite corner brackets, just with smooth, vertical side panels. Those panels open outward for easy access to contents or just opening things up for more fresh air.

Interior volume is about 20% less, too, perfect for people who choose weekend getaways over epic expeditions. The frame is T-track, so you can always mount more gear on the outside as needed, including water tanks, shower pods, and awnings.

It uses the same integrated pop-up rooftop tent, and still has a queen size mattress. The key difference is that the mattress runs fore-aft rather than side-to-side.

Available in two sizes based on how much room you want (and how much you want the bed protruding over the cab). Options include the Standard:

Both are offered for a huge selection of mid- and full-sized trucks from Chevy, Dodge, Ford, GMC, Honda, Jeep, Nissan, Ram, Rivian and Toyota. Just note that the prices and weight listed here are based on the smallest configurations.

MSRP starts at $8,999 and $9,999 before adding options. Pre-orders are open now with a $500 refundable deposit, delivery expected by end of year.

I'm a serial traveller who's crisscrossed the US more times than I can count. Current rigs are a '19 Vandoit Ford Transit camper van and an '05 GX470, both fully outfitted for off-road adventures, plus a healthy fleet of gravel bikes & MTBs. On two wheels or four, I love exploring the world from the backroads.
