Tusca Hitchhiker is a sub-200lb truck bed camper insert

Want a cozy camper in your truck bed but don’t want to add a bunch of weight? The new Tusca Outdoors Hitchhiker weighs as little as 180lbs and fits inside almost any truck bed or trailer.

Using high-density foam (about 2.5″ thick) that’s coated inside and out with truck bed liner, the Hitchhiker is a tough shell that’s insulated like a cooler and ripe for customization. Here’s what you need to know…

It’s available in multiple sizes to fit various truck beds and trailers. The standard models fit a double-sized mattress to sleep two, and the Solo fits a standard twin mattress or cot with a little room left over.

The standard models range from 190-200lbs and come in two lengths – 79″ and 89″, both 58″ wide.

The Solo is 180lbs and only comes in an 89″ length that’s 48″ wide externally.

All can be had with or without lashing points on the side, letting you easily strap them down then remove them after the adventure’s over. Or use permanent mounts to create a full-time camper trailer on any standard flat trailer.

They’ll fit over Decked (or other) bed storage drawers, giving you secure storage and a platform to raise the full-size modules over the wheel wells.

Optional wood inlays provide built-in “cross bars” that you can screw accessories into. Or, you can bolt through the foam for permanent attachments of things like solar panels, etc.

Side vent windows, carpeted floor, and electrical port come standard, along with a vented port that can be used for heater or A/C tubes. That said, the foam construction basically makes this a big cooler, so you won’t need much to keep the temp constant, and your body heat might be enough in all but the coldest conditions.

Tusca Hitchhiker prices range from $2,799 to $3,099. Custom sizes are just a bit more. They’re made in Pennsylvania, so you can pick them up, or have them shipped for $500-$750 within the USA.
